Hiking to Mount Cook, New Zealand…

This panoramic view is a throwback to our time in New Zealand at the beginning of last year. Sadly I am still yet to process all of the images, which is a not uncommon occurrence as client work naturally takes precedence. And I also still have to finish going through all of the Europe images from last year… Lucky am I that I absolutely love my profession!

Anyway on this glorious morning Mel and I hiked from our accommodation towards Mount Cook, stopping frequently to capture the breathtaking scenery. Melinda is just visible in the lead in this shot, with the path is mirrored by the river.

Another view along the trail… I have compressed this panorama quite considerably for web viewing, hence the blue banding which is not present in the print. © Michael Evans Photographer 2016

  1. I live in Auckland NZ and your pictures remind me to get out of the city and go and see whats around me! Amazing how i sit around hankering after Europe for this sort of scenery when it’s right here.

    1. So true Andrea! I feel it very keenly as well since I grew up in London, but did not really appreciate it until I had been living in Melbourne for quite a few years. I think the best solution (for me anyway) is to set little local photographic projects, as it helps me appreciate that which is on my doorstep. Thank you for commenting! M
