Hobart and the Gourmet Farmer…

Having enjoyed the Gourmet Farmer series featuring Matthew Evans (no relation!) I was keen to visit the shop he established in Salamanca which sells a variety of his produce. We tasted and purchased some of his amazing cheeses, which by ordinary standards could not be called inexpensive, but considering the quite superb and artisanal nature of everything we tried, could also not be regarded as expensive. As with anything in life, you get what you pay for…

Matthew Evans was at one time a food critic in Sydney, until he decided to change his life completely by moving to Tasmania and learning to grow and rear as much of his own produce and livestock as possible (with an understandably steep and unenviable learning curve that accompanied his transition). I definitely will head into this shop next time I am in Hobart, and certainly the TV series makes for good viewing!
