The following images were taken as a favour to my friend and gym buddy Mark Frangiosa, who recently opened his own boutique gym and fitness training studio in the Melbourne suburb of Watsonia North. More of the images that we captured can be seen at www.alltonefitness.com.au
The gym is in essence a converted garage, into which Mark has invested some of the best available equipment for training his clients and helping them to achieve their fitness goals. I knew as soon as I saw the space that I would need to supplement the lighting with several bounced flash units in order to create a more dynamic and ‘clean’ feel to the images. By clean, I mean that I wanted to avoid the look that overhead fluorescent lighting on it’s own can give to the subjects in the form of eye socket shadows, and to counter balance the general sickly green colourcast that can result from fluorescents. The key as always is (in my opinion) to use flash in such a way as for it to be impossible to tell that flash has been used! Hopefully I have achieved this here…

As mentioned, I originally met Mark as we both trained at the same gym together, but having now worked with him on this and another project I know him as a passionate and dedicated personal trainer whose primary concern for his clients is the safe attainment of their health and fitness goals. Highly recommended if you are in need of inspiration and local to the area!
