This lovely little lighthouse is located on the Caitlins coastline, Waipapa Point being a rocky promontory on the south coast of the South Island of New Zealand. It was originally built in response to the tragic shipwreck of the passenger steamer Tararua on 29th April 1881, which claimed the lives of 131 of the 150 passengers on board.
We had spent the morning in Invercargill, which is both the southernmost and westernmost city in New Zealand, and indeed one of the southernmost cities in the world. Famous for it’s water tower, we grabbed a few images here before heading down to the Caitlins coastline.

Invercargill is a nice little city, although it does not have the same picturesque appeal (to me at least!) of Queenstown; in fairness we only had a couple of hours to explore, however the quiet main street buildings seemed to exude a slightly ‘tired’ appearance. Naturally I could not leave without grabbing a shot of the water tower…

What a beautiful day you had Waipapa Point! The light, the scenery – everything is wonderful. And your photography is incredible!
Thanks Elisa, it really was a stunning day!
