After Saumur we drove along the Loire river and stopped at the Fontvraud Abbey, home of the tomb of Richard I of England ( better known as Richard the Lionheart)… The weather had indeed pursued us, however the interior of the Abbey was bathed in a soft subdued light that was quite beautiful to behold.

This first colour view inside the nave gives an idea of the scale, while the second shows a group of people viewing the tomb of Richard I and Isabella of Angouleme…all images handheld using the 17mm TS-E



Normally I tend to favour quite contrasty black and white conversions, however in this instance I processed the RAW files to match the prevailing mood inside the Abbey…I just liked the high key feel, which although not strictly how the interiors looked to the eye, certainly match my emotional memory of this spacious building…
