A night in Les Andelys…

Perched 90m above the town of Les Andelys is the ruined medieval Chateau Gaillard. Commissioned by Richard the Lionheart, construction began in 1196 and unusually for the period took only two years; apparently in his latter years the Castle became his favourite residence. It certainly dominates the towns of Les Andelys and Petit Andelys below…

We stayed at the Chambres D’Hotes La Ville Alienor in Les Andelys, which was superb. An excellent breakfast and a very comfortable room. A few more images from this lovely town…
